Message from the Director

The third millennium is witnessing an astonishing development and tangible progress in biotechnologies, which are invested in scientific research in general and medical research, in particular, to arrive at modern diagnostic methods and effective treatments for diseases that affect the health of the individual and society. This technical progress has been accompanied by the expansion of the establishment of specialized research centers, which are responsible for setting up an accurate system for setting priorities and selecting research points, and then implementing distinguished scientific research and benefiting from its results and applications to overcome health problems in the community.

Based on the strategic role played by King Saud University and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology to achieve the goals of the National Policy for Science, Technology, and Innovation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Obesity Research Center at King Saud University was established in 1429 AH, as the first center specialized in obesity research at the local and regional level.

TheObesity Research Center at King Saud University looks forward to conducting distinguished medical research in the field of obesity and its complications, laying the foundations for fruitful cooperation between different scientific disciplines, and training national cadres on the transfer and development of modern biotechnologies.

The center includes a group of distinguished researchers, trained technicians, and qualified administrators. The center contains research laboratories and advanced scientific equipment in the fields of molecular biology and cell culture, in addition to modern laboratories for studying genes and proteins. The center has succeeded in concluding a set of scientific and research cooperation agreements with prestigious international universities and centers and distinguished scholars in the United States of America, Britain, Canada, and South Korea, which provides the main ingredients and mainstays for achieving the center's vision and goals.

We hope that the Obesity Research Center at King Saud University will represent a mainstay for the prevention and treatment of obesity and its associated diseases by achieving a community partnership and establishing communication and awareness channels for community members, for an ideal society whose members enjoy good health and outstanding productivity. In conclusion, I invite you to browse our website, hoping that you will find it interesting and useful.
