Cell Culture Lab

The ORC maintains a self-contained Cell Culture Facility that houses all equipment needed for the growth, maintenance, and analysis of human adipose tissue, adipocytes (both mature cells and preadipocytes) and animal 3T3-L1 cells. The facility provides basic support to investigators and has experience in:

Adipocyte cell isolation and culture.
Preadipocytes cell differentiation.
Human peripheral blood mononuclear cells isolation, growth, activation and labeling.
Special staining for cells.
Cellular characterization (morphological, functional, cell surface receptor expression). f) Growing a range of different cell lines.
Large-scale cell cultures.
Transfection of cells and expansion of different clones.
Gene targeting
Services:

The facility can provide researchers with:
Technical advice and service for culturing a range of cell types.
Media preparation, filtration and testing.
Training in cell culture techniques including cell transfection.
Mycoplasma screening.
Microbial contamination testing.
Facility staff can provide instruction on basic aspects of human and animal cell culture and aseptic techniques. Specialized training is also available for techniques covering the full range of cell culture, including:
Pre-mature and mature adipocyte isolation and culture.
Cell count and test for viability.
Special staining for cells.
Functional cellular assays; such as cellular glucose uptake and measuring the rate of cellular lipolysis.
Cell preservation.
Mycoplasma detection.
Cell cloning.
DNA transfection.
