Word from the Center Director

The third millennium has witnessed remarkable advancements and tangible progress in biotechnology, which has been invested in scientific research in general and medical Research in particular to develop modern diagnostic methods and effective treatments for diseases that affect individual and community health.

This technological progress has been accompanied by the expansion of establishing specialized research centers that develop precise systems for setting priorities, selecting research topics, and conducting distinguished scientific research while utilizing their results and applications to address health challenges in society.

In line with the strategic role played by King Saud University and King Abdelaziz City for Science and Technology in achieving the objectives of the National Policy for Science, Technology, and Innovation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the University Obesity Research Center at King Saud University was established in 1429 AH (2008 AD) As the first specialized center for obesity research at the local and regional levels.

The center aspires to conduct high-quality medical research in the field of obesity and its complications, establish fruitful collaborations between various scientific disciplines, and train national talents in the transfer and development of modern biotechnologies.

The center includes a distinguished team of researchers, trained technicians, and qualified administrators.

It is equipped with advanced research laboratories and scientific devices in molecular biology and cell culture, in addition to modern laboratories for studying genes and proteins.

The center has successfully established several scientific and research collaboration agreements with prestigious universities and research centers, as well as distinguished scientists in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and South Korea.

These partnerships provide the essential components and fundamental pillars necessary to achieve the center’s vision and objectives.

We hope that the University Obesity Research Center at King Saud University will serve as a cornerstone for the prevention and treatment of obesity and its associated diseases by fostering community partnerships and establishing communication and awareness channels for society.

Our goal is to create an ideal community where individuals enjoy good health and high productivity.
